Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins broadly used in various therapeutic and biomedical applications. The variable affinity of lectins towards variety carbohydrates has raised attention for the biologist to explore functional aspects lectins. express specificity simple example mannose, lactose, sialic acid, complex glycan, glycoproteins. classified based on their sugar as a tool study protein-carbohydrate interactions. ubiquitous nature identified from all sources such bacteria, fungi, algae, animals. Plants most abundant source lectins, till now, more than three hundred were characterized plants. These distributed parts plant according requirements function. physiological role is still not well understood. overabundant presence seeds storage tissues indicated development. Plant shows broad range activities like antibacterial, antifungal, insecticidal, anticancerous, antileishmanial, antiviral, anticoagulants. In this review, we aim highlight classification application biological aspects.
